REMOVAL OF LUMPS & BUMPS
EARLY DETECTION SAVES LIVES
It is possible to detect oral cancer early with regular check-ups and prompt investigations. Tissue changes inside and outside the mouth may be a sign of early cancer. Our Consultants Oral Surgeons are committed to thorough investigations and early diagnosis of oral cancers.
Not all lumps and bumps are cancerous, but some lesions have a greater potential for becoming cancerous. Your Dentist should include a standardised oral examination inside and outside your mouth which will only take a few minutes.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT
We have a team of Dentists, Specialists and Consultant Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons who are qualified in detecting and diagnosing lumps and bumps. We are able to carry out a biopsy (taking a small sample), arranging the testing and diagnosis of lumps, bumps and lesions.
- Thickening of Oral Soft Tissue
- A Lump in the Soft Tissue
- Soreness
- Difficulty in swallowing or chewing
- Swelling of jaw that causes dentures to fit poorly
- Lesions on lip due to sunburn

Discomfort or severe pain from your wisdom teeth requires a consultation with a Dentist or Specialist Oral Surgeon. They will advise you on any necessary treatment required, whether conservative or surgical.
A radiograph (x-ray) is taken which locates the position of your wisdom teeth. This also helps to assess how difficult a possible extraction may be.
Routine, difficult or impacted wisdom teeth can be removed with local anaesthetic, under sedation or general anaesthetic, as appropriate, by a Consultant Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon or Specialist Oral Surgeon.
At Parkway Clinic we have all the facilities to provide Local Anaesthetic (with or without Sedation) or General Anaesthetic. Your Surgeon and Anaesthetist can discuss your needs and advise you on what is best.
Upper wisdom teeth are usually quite straightforward to remove and do not generally cause too much discomfort. You will be advised on how to care for your socket and given an advice leaflet to take home with you.
If lower wisdom teeth are buried in bone, their removal can be quite difficult. The bone will be removed, the tooth extracted and dissolvable stitches inserted in the gum. Swelling, reduced mouth opening and discomfort are all normal after these operations and may continue for several days.
